There could hardly have been a more fitting day for Tomsetts Distribution to welcome its first fully electric heavy goods vehicle than World Environment Day.
The arrival of the new 12-tonne electric lorry marks another important milestone in the company’s ambitious sustainability journey and its commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2030 and Net Zero by 2040.
The vehicle will operate daily in and around Brighton & Hove, where reducing emissions can have the greatest impact.
By replacing diesel-powered deliveries on urban routes, the new electric HGV will help improve air quality in busy streets where people live, work and shop, supporting cleaner transport in one of Sussex’s busiest cities.
The new vehicle is instantly recognisable thanks to its striking curtain featuring the Brighton skyline – a visual reminder that this electric HGV has been introduced to serve the city while helping improve air quality on its streets.

Andrew Tucknott, Managing Director of Tomsetts Distribution, said:
“Our new electric 12-tonne lorry arrived on World Environment Day – which I’d like to pretend was planned!
It will be working in and around Brighton & Hove every day. Diesel vehicles have the biggest impact in busy urban streets, so putting an electric vehicle on these routes helps reduce pollution where it matters most.
Getting a family business from Newhaven, established in 1975, to this point in just two years is something we’re incredibly proud of. It’s another important milestone on our journey towards carbon neutrality by 2030 and Net Zero by 2040.”
The investment demonstrates Tomsetts’ belief that meaningful progress towards a lower-carbon future comes through practical action. By introducing electric vehicles where they can make the greatest environmental difference, the company continues to develop a transport operation that benefits both customers and the communities it serves.
Tomsetts would also like to thank Centurion Truck Rental and HTC Group for their support in supplying the new electric vehicle and helping make this significant milestone possible.
As the logistics industry continues to evolve, Tomsetts remains committed to investing in cleaner technologies, improving operational efficiency and delivering sustainable transport solutions for customers across Sussex and beyond.
